Position Summary: 

The National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA) is the nation’s leading voice for 2.2 million domestic workers who work as nannies, home care workers, and cleaners in private homes. Powered by 60+ affiliates, chapters, and individual workers across the country, NDWA organizes domestic workers to raise industry standards and guarantee workplace rights and dignity by waging policy (legislative and administrative) campaigns at the municipal, state and federal level and elevating domestic workers as key leaders in building a powerful movement for racial, economic and gender justice. 

NDWA also leads the Families Belong Together (FBT) coalition of over nearly 250 organizations representing Americans from all backgrounds who have joined together to fight family separation and promote dignity, unity, and compassion for all children and families.  

The Director of Government Relations will be responsible for developing and leading NDWA relationships with government representatives and agencies to advance the organization’s federal agenda.

Responsibilities: 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement NDWA’s government relations strategy to advance the organization’s federal agenda related to workers rights, future of work, benefits, and immigration. 
  • Lead legislative and administrative efforts at the federal level with congressional offices and federal agencies, including organizing hill briefings, and cultivating relationships with key offices in Congress 
  • Manage the relationship with NDWA’s Government Relations firm.
  • Draft and submit testimony and remarks for congressional hearings and briefings.
  • Represent NDWA at coalition meetings, briefings and policy forums.
  • Work collaboratively with other teams in NDWA to advance organizational agenda and strategy. 
  • Develop and lead virtual and in-person mobilizations of NDWA’s membership in Congress and plan briefings and other events on Capitol Hill.
Job Requirements: 
  • 5-7 years of experience in policy advocacy at the federal, state or local level.  
  • Excellent research, writing and communication skills.
  • A demonstrated commitment to racial justice, gender equity and worker rights.
  • Experience working with impacted community members and grassroots organizations.
  • A demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong relationships and partnerships with coalitions, policy makers and community members.
  • Ability to organize time, manage up, work independently, as well as follow direction, collaborate, coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively research and analyze data in a clear format.
