Position Summary: 

The National Domestic Workers Alliance and its innovation arm, NDWA Labs, seeks an energetic, highly organized and self-directed Special Advisor. The Special Advisor will provide strategic, programmatic, administrative and logistical support to the Social Innovations Director. The Special Advisor’s role combines administrative and project management duties and requires timely, proactive and accurate correspondence internally and externally. The Special Advisor will join a growing, entrepreneurial, high-profile team in a fast-paced environment at the intersection of the future of work and technology, social justice, the labor movement and social entrepreneurship.

Responsibilities: 

What You’ll Do

The Special Advisor will be a key partner to the Director to achieve the strategic goals and objectives of NDWA and NDWA Labs in the following ways:

Operations & Administration 

  • Conserve Director's time by proactively managing inbox; reading, researching, and routing correspondence; drafting letters and documents
  • Manage with ease and confidence all aspects of scheduling and administrative support including, but not limited to: 
    • Arranging all scheduling, travel arrangements and meeting logistics in a manner consistent with overall strategy
    • Providing administrative support to Director, including office operations, event planning, expense reports, and reimbursements
    • Maintaining and improving upon the Director’s internal systems and processes
  • Provide historical reference and contribute to historical record by developing and using filing and retrieval systems and recording key meeting discussions/outcomes

Advancing Director’s Agenda

  • Act as a strategic advisor to the Director, when appropriate. Digest incoming information to extract key points, compile and analyze data, and communicate tradeoffs to assist with decision-making and prioritization
  • Communicate Director’s strategy and objectives by drafting internal and external meeting agendas, briefing documents, slides, and other preparatory materials; document and summarize discussions and proactively manage next steps in meetings
  • Manage ad-hoc projects and initiatives that emerge unexpectedly or are in an exploratory or early stage

Communications & Relationship Management

  • Serve as key point of contact internally to NDWA and NDWA Labs leadership, advisors, consultants and staff
  • Coordinate with the Director’s key collaborators to ensure smooth organizational functioning; Initiate appropriate interventions and meetings to maintain cohesion and alignment; Facilitate meetings on behalf of the Director as needed
  • Serve as the external face of the Director’s office by serving as a liaison on behalf of the Director with social movement partners, media, technologists, business partners,  philanthropy and investors, and the labor movement
  • Support Director’s fundraising work by managing follow up with donors, reviewing and improving written communications, and maintaining relationships with potential and existing funders

  • Google Suite, including Google Calendar, Google Docs, and Google Sheets
  • MS office suite
  • Macbooks and Apple products 
  • Online Cloud Computing and other web-based programs  
  • Strong interest in the intersections of social justice, labor rights, politics, and technology
  • Strong alignment with NDWA’s vision and values, including an understanding of issues facing low-wage workers, immigrant communities, and other communities of color 
  • Previous experience in executive assistant or similar role strongly preferred
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred but not required

  • Salary range: $70-75k, depending on experience
  • Location: Remote with East Coast hours. Occasional travel required post-pandemic.
